How to Take Screenshot with Microsoft Edge and Add Notes?

The new Microsoft Edge browser, which is based on Chromium, has a number of beneficial features. Many readers would benefit from the ability to take web captures or screenshots of webpages. This works on both Windows and Mac and allows you to easily capture webpages that you wish to read later. Before saving the image to your computer, you may write markup on it to add annotations. In this post, we'll show you how to perform all of these things.

Edge's Web Capture

To capture a screenshot in the Windows operating system, use the default shortcut keys "Win + Shift + S." However, this will launch the Snipping Tool, which has limited capabilities. Many people dislike Snipping Tool and prefer to utilize third-party screenshot capture applications such as Snagit or others. Similarly, on a Mac, you may open the Screenshot program by pressing "Command + Shift + F5", which has more features than the Windows Snipping Tool app. Using the Web Capture option in Microsoft Edge, on the other hand, provides the following benefits over the native OS options:

  • You can take a screenshot of a specific section of the page or receive a scrolling capture of the complete page's content. The good news is that you won't have to deal with scrolling the page since Edge will scroll and catch everything for you.
  • You can make brief comments or draw a mark to bring attention to the screenshot's information.
  • Save the image to your PC or copy it to your clipboard.
  • You can also save the image to your collections to keep related stuff together. The collections may be synced and utilized across all of your devices if you check in with your Microsoft account.
This is really helpful for pupils who want to take notes for subsequent reading. It's also a good idea to save the whole page information, which is usually only accessible through a subscription or paywall. To read the same page's content, you do not need to pay or log in each time.

Open Microsoft Edge and go to Web Capture.
In Edge, you may access Web Capture in a variety of ways.

  • The simplest method is to use keyboard shortcuts, which are "Control + Shift + S" in Windows and "Command + Shift + S" on Mac.
  • Alternatively, right-click on the webpage you want to capture and choose "Web Capture" from the context menu.
  • Finally, pick "Web Capture" from the menu list by clicking on the three dots "Settings and more" symbol in the upper right corner.
All of these will bring up the Web Capture pop-up, which will give you three choices: Capture Area, Capture Full Page, and Close.

Take a snapshot using Microsoft Edge Web Capture.

To create a rectangle-shaped dragger, pick the "Capture Area" option and draw a rectangle-shaped dragger with your mouse. "Copy" and "Markup Capture" options are located in the bottom right corner of the selection. Move the screenshot area and drag either side to change the emphasis. Choose the appropriate location and click "Copy" to copy the capture to your clipboard.

You'll see a flash success message that reads "Copied" before the choice disappears. The object from your clipboard may then be pasted into Word documents or any other program that supports it. The "Markup Capture" option will bring up a pop-up window where you may add markups to the captured screen area.

If you wish to capture the complete content of a webpage, select "Capture Full Page" after opening Web Capture. This will open a pop-up box with markup choices that will automatically capture the whole page's content. When you choose the "Markup Capture" option for area capture, you'll see the identical markup box.

To view the complete page's content recorded, scroll down the pop-up and select "Draw" from the top toolbar. It will display a color palette with 25 distinct hues, as well as a sample line of the chosen color. To raise or reduce the thickness of the pen, drag the button shown along the preview line.

You may write anywhere on the photo after choosing the color and thickness of the pen. It's worth noting that you may put your remarks anywhere on the image by scrolling down and clicking numerous times. If you make a mistake, use the tollbar's "Erase" option and rub on the markup item to remove it from the image. This program is free to use because it does not destroy the content on the taken image.

Finally, select the "Save" option to save the marked-up image to your download folder in JPEG format. The file name will be produced automatically, with the format "Web capture Date Time Website URL."

Rather than downloading the image, you may add it to your collections by selecting "Add to Collections." To save your photo, choose an existing collection or create a new one.

Finally, in the Web Capture pop-up, click the three dots symbol and select "Copy." This copies the full scrolling image to your clipboard, which you may then paste into another program.

Note: To clear the clutter on a website with a lot of adverts or needless banners, utilize the Immersive Reader option. You may enter the immersive reader by clicking the "Enter Immersive Reader" symbol in the address bar (like a book icon with speaker). This will clear the page of any clutter, and you may also modify the text size, font family, and backdrop using the "Text Preferences." You may now use Web Capture to snap a scrolling screenshot of the website without being interrupted.

Final Thoughts

The Microsoft Edge We Capture capability is excellent for recording webpage material and markup with extra comments. The only issue is that there is no way to postpone the capture, which would be great for including right-click menus or other hovering elements on the page.
